Sing and Don't Cry, by Cate Kennedy

A young Australian woman volunteers to work on a micro-economic project in Mexico, and finds her priorites challenged by the values of the poverty-stricken peasants she encounters.

"It says a lot about Mexico, and even more about Australia"

  1. The author is very touched by the happiness of the Mexicans, despite their poverty and vulnerability. But she makes no reference at all to any domestic violence or corruption among the villagers which I found to be a bit unrealistic

  2. the joy of the mexicans in their simple lives contrasts sharply with the consumeristic lives of many people in the first world

  4. It is a shame that American multinationals are changing the traditional lives of the Mexicans
